ABOUT US
This all inclusive political poetry podcast delves into political, social, and economic issues both within the United States and aboard, operated entirely by Gen Z individuals from production to management. Our mission is to shed light on nontraditional narratives often overlooked by mainstream media, challenging stereotypes that suggest Gen Z lacks political engagement or inventiveness. Instead, Gen Z is actively participating in politics through innovative means, such as podcasting and utilizing new media platforms, to foster connections with peers and embrace diverse perspectives. Things Just Got Spicy, embodies the unconventional, distinctive, and fearless spirit of Gen Z, emphasizing the importance of understanding differing viewpoints in an increasingly polarized world.
BINTOU
FOFANA
Bintou Fofana is a senior at Allegheny College, majoring in International Studies (with a West Africa area focus) and double minoring in Political Science and French. She is the founder of TJGS and current host. Bintou started TJGS, to combine her love of poetry and politics; and to give students a safe platform to discuss social, political and economic issues occurring in the U.S. and abroad. She believes the power of poetic performance and art is not only moving and inspirational, it tells a story. It gives a new perspective on what people are experiencing around the world. Poetry goes beyond lines written on paper, it is a document of what is occurring in that moment in time; it is spoken from the heart.
DESTINY PERKINS
Destiny Perkins is a junior at Boston University majoring in International Relations. She is also a writer and artist, who hopes to purse a career working in public policy. Destiny joined the TJGS team because she loves the mission of TJGS and wants to support the discussion of global politics and literature across generations.
INDIA McCRUTER
India McCruter is a senior at Allegheny College majoring in Political Science and minoring in Philosophy. On campus India is involved in the Andrew Goodman Foundation and the Center for Political Participation. She is passionate about creating space and finding ways to amplify underrepresented voices and perspectives; in particular TJGS provides a unique environment for often unheard experiences and stories. LILLEY
Sha Lilley is a senior at Allegheny College, majoring in Global Health and doubling minoring in Studio Art and Women’s & Gender Studies. Being an artist in college she does most of her work making cover art for albums of local musicians or inboxed commissions when she’s at home. Joining TJGS has opened her horizons to new and ongoing issues occurring in the world today. She has created all of the beautiful cover art for season two + three and will create all of the cover art for season four.
